Quartz is a material that is useful in the kitchen, bathroom or braai areas. It’s a hard material that can withstand a lot, but it can still be damaged.
Here are a few tips to prevent damage on your Quartz countertop:
- Use hot pads or trivets for pans, crockpots, and electric skillets. Quartz can withstand temperatures up to 148 degrees Celsius, but it is susceptible to damage by quick changes in temperature – also known as “thermal shock”.
- Avoid the use of knives and scissors directly on the Quartz countertop. Even if Quartz is scratch resistant, it can be damaged when it is forcefully hit with sharp objects. A cutting board is recommended.
- Don’t use highly acidic or alkaline cleaners, such as nail polish remover, turpentine, bleach, oven cleaner, dishwasher rinsing products, drain cleaners, etc. Rather use a mild detergent and rinse if there are spills.
- Don’t put pressure or force on your countertops, like dropping a heavy pot on it, because the stone can be cracked or chipped.
- Don’t wax or polish it. Quartz is nonporous, and doesn’t require waxing, polishes or sealants to keep its gloss and ultra-smooth surface.
